Sina Skates is happy to be back in Birmingham, AL and back teaching at The Dance Foundation after a 5-
year detour up in Maine. She previously taught at The Dance Foundation for nearly 10 years and before
that trained as a professional ballet dancer and competed in ballroom dancing. She has an
undergraduate degree in Theatre Arts from Brandeis University, a Masters in Psychology and a
Doctorate in Spiritual Science. Sina is currently working on her JD at Birmingham School of Law and loves
thinking just as much as she loves moving to music! She has special training in improvisation, clowning,
musical theatre and writing. She is a member of the Royal Academy of Dance and a member of the
Dramatists Guild of America. She has written a number of musicals and plays for Birmingham Children’s
Theatre. Sina loves to inspire and encourage children to explore the movement of their bodies and the
limitless expanse of imagination contained in their minds. Sina has three children ages 16, 15, and 13
and too many pets to enumerate.
