The arts ARE education. March is National Arts in The arts ARE education. March is National Arts in Education Month in Alabama. Our program Brain, Body, Balance is a curriculum designed to promote wellness, harnessing mind, body and spirit to develop a healthy sense of self and social-emotional connection with others. The curriculum for Homewood High School teaches high school students with disabilities, helping build self-discipline, awareness, collaboration, and language arts skills. Special thanks to Alabama State Council on the Arts, IPC Beeson Fund and the State Department of Education for supporting this program. #theartsmakealabamabetter #artsineducation #dancingwithwords #mathinmotion #brainbodybalance #communityinmotion #everybodydance #letsdance #dancetogrow 📷 @kendragiles_photography

Recital portraits are being made this week. Dancer Recital portraits are being made this week. Dancers should arrive in costume and photo-ready at the start of their class time. Prepare your costumes now…
1. HANG ALL COSTUMES RIGHT AWAY TO ALLOW WRINKLES TO FALL OUT.  PUT PANTS ON A CLIP HANGER.  PUT ALL COSTUMES IN A GARMENT BAG FOR SAFEKEEPING AND TRANSPORTATION.

2. PUT HAIRPIECES AND/OR SEPARATE ACCESSORIES, WITH EACH ITEM LABELED WITH A NAME, IN A LABELED ZIPLOC BAG AND ATTACH TO HANGER

3. HANG TUTUS UPSIDE DOWN. HANG IN THE BATHROOM AND LET A STEAMY SHOWER HELP RELEASE WRINKLES.

4. CHECK YOUR TIGHTS TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE CLEAN AND FREE OF RIPS OR SNAGS.

5. PRACTICE MAKING A BUN AND GET USED TO WEARING/DANCING IN A BUN EACH WEEK IN CLASS . BUNS All dancers in kindergarten ballet and older will need a bun for recital. Visit the links found in the parent portal for video tutorials on making a bun. One is for a bun at the crown (middle) of the head, and the second is for a low bun.
. Dancers in 3rd-12th grade may be asked to have both a bun and a ponytail for their performance.  We recommend a low bun in these cases, with or without a part. In most cases, the bun is needed first, and then the ponytail. So, if the hair is first put in a neat, tight ponytail, then the dancer will easily be able to remove her hairpins and hairnet to have a ponytail.
The Dance Foundation’s Community In Motion Progr The Dance Foundation’s Community In Motion Program addresses the need for children in our community to gain skills for school and life through ongoing creative and affirming dance classes. This program is at the heart of our mission and unique to Birmingham and the dance education field.
